I am currently employed as a lecturer in Childhood and Youth Studies at the Open University. In decemeber 2011 I will be moving to the University of Edinburgh to take up a lectureship in Child Practice.

I am a cultural geographer by training. In 2010 I completed my PhD at the University of Edinburgh. My thesis, 'The Sleep of Reason: On Practices of Reading Shonen Manga,' was supervised by Eric Laurier, Jane Jacobs and Liz Bondi. My PhD research explored the practices of reading shonen manga texts. More generally, my research interests fall into two broad categories: children and young people's media cultures; and materiality and embodiment in early childhood.
